All are welcome.\n\nAbout the exhibition:\n"Matrilineal Memory" is an exploration of memory\, emotion\, and cultural preservation. A solo e xhibition of artist Mikaela Shafer (Hopi)\, it features paintings\, poet ry\, and installation. Through the use of collagraph\, dyeing\, sewing\, and layering on paintings\, she intertwines her practice with her cultu re\, drawing inspiration from her Hopi heritage. Shafer’s unique appro ach incorporates unconventional tools\, including dried corn\, creating intricate patterns and textures\, including works printed on chiffon. Sh afer’s work becomes a practice of facing head on memories and processi ng\, grieving\, and ultimately healing. Her artistic journey centers on themes of memory\, healing from grief\, and reconnect ion through the mediums of art and poetry. Using unconventional techniqu es and materials\, her work reflects a balance of chaos and calm\, invit ing viewers to discover their own stories within each piece. An abstract expressionist\, she blends sewing\, painting\, weaving\, and occasional ly beading\, often incorporating natural pigments and found items\, to c reate emotionally charged and evocative works.
