Josie Hoffman is a multi-media artist. Movement is a constant element in their work. This movement flows through different formats, including 2D and 3D visual art, body movement, and performance. Their work flows through thoughts of environment, body politics, mental health, community, family, and cultural history. Depending on what the artwork calls for, sometimes natural materials, recycled materials, dance, digital media, or aerial arts, they incorporate reflections of land, water, and identity.
Josie is of Grand Portage Anishinaabe and mixed settler descent. She currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, working as a program coordinator for the Native Youth Arts Collective in Minneapolis at Little Earth. She also practices and teaches aerial arts at multiple studios in the Twin Cities. Josie holds a BFA in Fine Arts Studio and a Teaching Artist Minor from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. In 2022, she was awarded the First People’s Fund Business in Leadership Fellowship. In 2023, she was awarded a Minnesota State Arts Board grant and is a 23’-24’ Emerging Curators Institute Fellow.
