Abby Sunde is a Midwest based visual artist who was born and raised in the Ojibwe ceded territory of North Central Wisconsin. Sunde graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Environment Sciences from the University of Minnesota – Morris. In recent years, she fully shifted her focus towards art and has since graduated from Normandale Community College with an Associate of Fine Art in 2022 and is currently pursuing a BFA in Studio Art at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Artist statement:
Sunde is a multi-disciplinary artist who primarily works in 2D media and sculptural glass. Her work stems from exploring the nuisances of identity, while often grappling to understand the impacts of existing in a post-colonial state. Sunde is a direct descendant of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe and is also of Scandinavian/European-American descent. Sunde has been selected for group exhibitions across the country, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, and Massachusetts. Her work has also been a part of the Northern Spark art festival in St. Paul, Minnesota and the First International Festival of Manuports at Kohta in Helsinki, Finland.
