Aiyana Kline
Aiyana Kline is a non-binary Indigenous artist of Turtle Mountain and Black heritage, currently residing north of the Twin Cities. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration earned from the prestigious Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Aiyana is distinguished as an alum of the Native Youth Arts Collective (NYAC). Aiyana’s artistic journey is intricately woven with their cultural roots and an unbreakable connection to the natural world. Their preferred mediums—gouache and watercolor—serve as vessels for immersive, illustrative storytelling, spotlighting the profound relationship between animals and nature.
Artist Statement: I am a non-binary Indigenous Turtle Mountain and Black artist residing north of the Twin Cities. Having obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from the esteemed Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I take great pride in being an alum of the Native Youth Arts Collective (NYAC). My artistic journey is intimately intertwined with my cultural roots and an unwavering bond with the natural world. Through the medium of gouache and watercolor, I embark on illustrative storytelling adventures that celebrate the intricate relationship between animals and nature. One of my notable projects, “Sky Knowledge Across Indigenous Traditions,” seeks to bridge the wisdom of Indigenous traditions through art. Furthermore, another active collaboration with the NYAC Almanac stands as a significant venture in fostering and promoting Indigenous voices, actively contributing to the decolonization of the Farmer’s Almanac. My artistic creations stand as a testament to my rich cultural heritage, a manifestation of my deep affection for nature and a resolute commitment to the art of visual storytelling.
