Kirsten Wittmann

Pronouns: she/her
Tribal Affiliation: Leech Lake Ojibwe

Kirsten has always enjoyed writing, but started professionally about three years ago when she published her self-help/memoir, Failing Good: Five Steps to Failing Better. Since then, she has also written for an anthology titled Veterans Telling Stories and helped to co-found a non-profit of the same name that supports Veterans who want to utilize writing as a form of therapy from their service. She has also been hired by The Circle Native Newspaper as the “good news on the rez” writer sharing positive happenings around the state. She wrote her TEDxTalk presented in Minneapolis titled “Integrate Your Intuition” where she shared her personal and professional experience with the Two-Eyed Seeing Approach of integrating our western knowledge with Native intuition. She has also written articles and speeches in her advocacy for landback across the state, and a multitude of papers and reports throughout her academic and professional life in public service. She has joined the Native Author Program to focus on her novel and to elevate her writing career to another level of creativity and distribution to a wider audience, while surrounding herself with equally creative and successful mentors and peers.
